The Swordsman Program desires to challenge men and boys toward greater maturity in Christ by reading the Word. Research from the Barna Research Group shows that people with high levels of Bible engagement have marked differences in their lives from those who do not. Evidence shows that consistent reading of the Bible yields the following benefits:
To earn this merit, each Royal Ranger should be able to describe the conditions when a campfire should or should not be used. Royal Rangers will also collect and identify examples of the three categories of material used in building and maintaining a campfire - tinder, kindling, and fuel. They will also be able to describe good stewardship as it relates to fire craft.
This merit can be earned by boys and leaders in Discovery Rangers, Adventure Rangers, and Expedition Rangers.
To earn this merit, each Royal Ranger should be able to list commonly used hand tools and list hand tools specifically used on camp outs. Royal Rangers will also master the basic safety rules of handling these tools and demonstrate proper passing of a tool to another person, carrying the tool, and sharpening of the tools.
This merit can be earned by boys and leaders in Discovery Rangers, Adventure Rangers, and Expedition Rangers.
Each Royal Ranger will learn the structure and parts that make up this machine. Royal Rangers will also master the basic safety rules of handling a BB Gun. This merit is earned once a Royal Ranger completed a shooting event!
The BB Gun Merit is a blue (basic) skill merit earned by completing a set of fun and interactive requirements related to the safe handling of BB guns. This merit can be earned by boys and leaders in Discovery Rangers, Adventure Rangers, and Expedition Rangers
Each Royal Ranger will learn the structure and parts that make up this machine. Royal Rangers will also master the 11 basic safety rules of handling a BB Gun. They must also be able to draw a diagram of the layout of a safe air gun shooting range and explain the flow of traffic for shooters on the range. There are 12 requirements to earn this merit.
The Air Gun Safety Merit is a blue (basic) skill merit earned by completing a set of fun and interactive requirements related to air gun safety. This merit can be earned by boys and leaders in Discovery Rangers, Adventure Rangers, and Expedition Rangers.
Once the Rope Craft Merit is completed, Royal Rangers will be able to identify these terms: working end/part, standing end/part, bight, and loop. Royal Rangers will be able to explain the differences between natural fiber and synthetic fiber ropes and will be able to demonstrate a variety of knots.
The Rope Craft Merit is a blue (basic) skill merit earned by completing a set of fun and interactive requirements related to rope craft. This merit can be earned by boys and leaders in Discovery Rangers, Adventure Rangers, and Expedition Rangers.
